Do Business with Whom you can Communicate with

3 Ways Leaders Do Business Realistically

written by Jason Chenard

In a "showy" social media world that has everyone showing what they want about themselves, are we thinking realistically?

In this week's Be Ready section, we see what's real.

Rested.

"I will get 8 hours of actual sleep per night."

Before setting this as a goal, we need to be real. If serious about this, we may need to be prepared to: eat right throughout the day, exercise at the right pace for ourselves, give up some immediately gratifying evening routines like alcohol or screens and give ourselves 9-10 hours of sleep opportunity.

Find out what lifestyle tweaks are your (realistic!) opportunities to sleep better now. Check out the Sleep Starter Guide to find out more here.

Fueled.

"I will improve to 8% body fat by my birthday."

Before setting this as a goal, we need to be real. If serious about this, we may need to be prepared to: skip a late night beer-and-wings-party, plan meals 3 days out, purge the kitchen cupboards of certain temptations, invest in tupperware and do more dishes instead of skipping them with an app.

Ready.

"Here's my insane to-do list for today."

Before setting this as a goal, we need to be real. If serious about getting things done, we need to choose the right people to do business with. Simply put, when deciding on person A vs person B, a fundamental must-have is communication.

Do they pick-up the phone?

Do they return calls?

Do they speak your language (literally and metaphorically)?

Do they take things too personal to solve problems?

Do they listen, attempt to understand and show a willingness to try?

Whether you choose the right person or not, things will go wrong along the way. When something does, the ability to communicate will be the different between problem creation and resolution .

Before moving forward, ask yourself:

"Is this someone I can communicate with?"
